Don't You Be Foolish

Although the origin of this song is not certain, it is believed to be from Norfolk and to have first appeared in the first half of the 19th Century.

The song seems to reflect a town dweller's idealised view of country life.

Nic Jones added a musical accompaniment based on Playford's 17th Centruy tune "The Merry, Merry Milkmaids".

My performance is heavily influenced by Nic's, which you can find on his superb album Ballads and Songs. If you can't get hold of a copy of the album, you might take a look at YouTube. Just saying.
